The awards are a showcase of the finest artisan food and drink from across England, Wales, Scotland and N. Ireland.

Restaurateur, chef, author and one of Britain’s most knowledgeable seafood experts Mitch Tonks, judged the fish and seafood category and commented:

“This is iconic smoked haddock. A British heritage product perfectly executed, high quality fish prepared using time tested methods that haven’t changed or deviated over the year I really felt I was eating something unique, moist spikily fish flakes with a comforting level of smoked and salt of which were in perfect balance with each other. Smoked haddock of this quality deserves its recognition, its something we should eat more of, breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, it suits them all.”

Shining ahead of some of the industry’s leading fish and seafood names, Alfred Enderby is one of the countries smallest smokehouses which is still privately owned with the PGI (Protected Geographical) status.

Owner, Patrick Salmon said, “This is fantastic news for our team. We are a truly traditional fish smoker who have been operating on the Grimsby Docks for over 100 years. We source our haddock fresh from sustainable North Atlantic fisheries and take great care with our refined cold smoking method”.

This award comes hot on the heels of their sliced smoked salmon earning the highest possible accolade at the 2020 Guild of Fine Food Awards last month as well as being named in The Times Top 50 Food & Drink products. Patrick goes on to say that “This, and recent awards, has seen an increase in our online sales and shows the popularity of not just our smoked haddock, but all the products we produce. We are genuinely just doing what we love.

We put our hearts into it and have become masters in our own right over the years with a great reputation particularly, with chefs and restaurants, for the highest quality and tastiest smoked fish. Hopefully, this national recognition will make more people of all ages want to buy it and try it”

About the Great British Foods Awards The Great British Food Awards were launched in 2014 to celebrate the country’s finest artisanal produce, as well as the hard-working people behind the scenes.

This year, the awards are bigger and better than ever, with lots of new categories and amazing celebrity judges, including Raymond Blanc OBE, Masterchef’s Monica Galetti, Olly Smith, Eric Lanlard, Miguel Barclay and Mitch Tonks.

Natasha Lovell-Smith, editor of Great British Food magazine and organiser of the awards, said: “Each year, our awards entries yield exciting new flavours from all across Britain, ‘undiscovered’ local gems as well as better-known British producer-brands.

After a huge number of entries and months of rigorous shortlisting, testing, tasting and consumer voting, our final shortlist really supports our nation’s reputation and status for producing world-class food and drink. With marks awarded for provenance and flavour, every winning producer deserves to count themselves as one of Britain’s best. Congratulations to all.”
