As usual we are busy trying to cope with the demand for smoked salmon at Christmas. This year however there has been a noticeable increase in customers asking us to include Grimsby traditionally smoked haddock to their order.

It is good to see that this long established delicacy is now being recognised, like traditionally smoked salmon, as something to be savoured on special occasions.

Although time is running out there is still a chance to put your order in if you telephone Richard Enderby on 01472 753818 before Monday 17th December.

Alfred Enderby’s are now using the services of Ideal LIncs who specialise in delivering fresh and local produce throughout Lincolnshire. This will allow our famous traditionally smoked salmon and haddock to be enjoyed by anyone in the county.
We already regularly supply descerning hotels and restaurants such as the Old Bakery Restaurant, the Lincoln Hotel and the Kingsway Hotel in the Lincoln and North East Lincs areas but with the help of Ideal Lincs we can now deliver both smoked and wet fish to all other parts of Lincolnshire and even as far as Newark without the restrictions of a minimum order.

Alfred Enderby Ltd sponsored the event by supplying some of its internationally recognised Grimsby Traditional Smoked Haddock. The event was attended on behalf of Alfred Enderby Ltd by Blue Spire Design who provide design, marketing and promotions for us.

The event featured star chef Stephanie Moon, from Rudding Park (soon to take part in the BBC’s Great British Menu) and renowned wine writer Christine Austin, wine critic for the Yorkshire Post, who together created a mouthwatering selection – ‘perfect pairings’ – to introduce the pleasures of matching delicious food and wine.

Stephanie created some wonderful smoked haddock fish cakes which proved to be incredibly popular. This confirmed a tribute expressed by then Minister of Food Jim Fitzpatrick at the launch of Protected Geographical Status for Grimsby Traditional Smoked Fish when he said ‘they were the best fish cakes I’ve ever tasted’.

The IWFS event in Leeds promoted regional food from Northern England, aiming to highlight the high quality of locally produced food in our region. As one of the most internationally recognised producers in the region Alfred Enderby Ltd was proud to sponsor the event and ensure that its members got a first class taste of traditional British seafood.

We are proud to announce that Alfred Enderby Ltd, as part of the Grimsby Traditional Fish Smokers Group, has been awarded a Protected Geographical Indication from the European Union. It is one of only four awards ever given to seafood in the UK.

Only fish produced in Grimsby using the traditional method can be called Grimsby Traditional Smoked Fish.

To use this name, producers must be audited by the Trading Standards Institute on behalf of DEFRA and the European Union to make sure their practices comply with specific criteria that defines the traditional smoking process. The Grimsby Traditional Fish Smokers Group, which consists of producers who are licensed to use the name, advise the Trading Standards Institute and DEFRA on the regulation and legal use of the name and the use of the PGI logo.
